Representative Kevin D. Witkos (R-Avon, Canton) was re-elected to his third term in the State House of Representatives on November 7, 2006.
Representative Witkos serves as Ranking Member on the legislature's Insurance and Real Estate Committee. He previously served as ranking member of the Program Review and Investigations Committee, and serves as a member on the Education and Public Safety Committees.
During his first term in the legislature, Representative Witkos was noted for introducing key improvements to school testing standards, and protective orders statutes. He was also the first Republican legislator to call for the resignation of former Governor John G. Rowland amid accusations of corruption in the administration.
Prior to being elected to the State House of Representatives, Kevin distinguished himself by being heavily involved in his community. He served as Vice Chairman of the Canton Board of Education, and is a former Chief of the Canton Volunteer Fire Department. He has also served as the Capitol Area Substance Abuse Council Representative, and is President of the Local Chapter of AFSCME Council #15. He’s also a former Canton Junior and Senior High School Girls Varsity and Boys Junior Varsity Soccer Coach.
Kevin received his Associates in Science at Tunxis Community College in 1996. He graduated from the Connecticut State Police Academy in 1989, and the New England Institute of Law Enforcement Management, UMASS 2002. He just completed his Bachelor of Arts in Liberal Arts Education at the University of Connecticut in 2007.
Representative Witkos is employed as a police sergeant for the town of Canton, and has worked with the Canton Police Department since 1989. He lives in the Town of Canton with his wife Esther and their two children, Kyra and Kevin Jr.
